In December 2025, during Art Basel Miami, Mona Lisa’s Daughter by Alex Righetto was presented within an exceptional artistic setting.
The work was exhibited alongside masterpieces by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Anthony van Dyck, Edgar Degas, and Andy Warhol, creating a compelling dialogue between different eras, artistic languages, and visions. Mona Lisa’s Daughter was positioned directly opposite a Picasso, creating an especially striking visual and conceptual conversation between the two works.
The presentation was part of Radiance, Righetto’s broader artistic project exploring the dignity and strength of women while also addressing the urgent issue of human trafficking. The project received an official recognition from the Mayor of Miami-Dade County.
This important presentation marked another significant chapter in the journey of Mona Lisa’s Daughter, further demonstrating the relevance of the work and its ability to engage in a dialogue with the history of art.
The painting originates from a reflection on the figure of the Mona Lisa and, specifically, on the daughter Lisa Gherardini, the woman traditionally identified as Leonardo da Vinci’s celebrated subject, might have had but never did. Through this imagined figure, Righetto explores themes of memory, absence, and the possibilities of a life that never came to be.
